Sri Lanka Schools: Ananda's openers in two century stands Leslie Fernando - 14 February 1999 Ananda openers Lakshan Fernando (45) and Dinusha Bandara (80) who shared a 131-run opening stand in the first innings came up with another good stand of 111 runs in the second innings against Mahinda in their drawn inter-school encounter at Ananda Mawatha yesterday. Mahinda in reply to Ananda's massive 301 for 7 declared were 68 for 2 overnight and they avoided a follow-on due to valuable 71-run partnership for the 8th wicket between Roshan Nalinda 73 (7 fours and 1 six) and N. Sumanasekera 28 not out. Mahinda at one stage were precariously placed 141 for 8. But Roshan and Sumanasekera batted with purpose to make a good recovery and total 212 for 9 declared. Ananda batting a second time made 231 for 6 with Dinusha Bandara competing his second half century (80), Lakshan Fernando a fine 45 with Thilina Kandami a bright 43 with 5 fours. Scores: Ananda 301 for 7 declared and 231 for 6. (L. Fernando 45, D. Bandara 80, L. Chathurange 23, T. Kandambi 43, M. Ambawatte 2 for 58). Mahinda: 68 for 2 overnight 212 for 9 declared (R. Nalinda 73, B. K. Suneth 28, N. S. Sumanasekera 28 n.o., T. Rupasinghe 18, R. P. Kumara 16, D. Bandara 2 for 32, K. Fernando 2 for 47).
