Sri Lanka Schools: Petes sense victory over Ananda

The Anandians, coming under the fiery pace of Aman Samsudeen and Suranga Pinto, and the leg spin of diminuive Chryshantha Peiris were dismissed for 86, in reply to the Peterite challenging score of 240 in their inter-school ticket encounter which began at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

St. Peter's on winning the toss and electing to bat, made good through two productive partnerships. The first was for the second wicket between Amesh Dissanayake and Mahesh Perera which realised 88 runs and the other a 66 run fifth wicket partnership between Kaushal Lokuarachchi and Sean Gunesekera. This enabled St. Peter's to make a purposeful score of 240 runs made off 61 overs and in 250 mts.

Towards which Dissanayake and Perera contributed two fine half centuries. The successful bowlers for Ananda were the three spinners Mudantha Pushpakumara (4/72) Thilina Kandambi (3/41) and Kusum Fernando. (2/58).

Ananda struggled and tottered against the Peterite opening attack of Aman Samsudeen 3 for 15 and Suranga Pinto 4 for 35 and the left arm spin of Chryshantha Peiris 3 for 20, to all out for 86 runs off 27 overs and 145 minutes. The match which continues today is poised for an interesting finish.
