Sri Lanka Schools: Peterite-Ananda match ends in exciting draw
Richard Dwight - 18 February 1999

St Peter's playing themselves into a winning position, in having to make 118 runs for victory in twenty overs, lost early wickets due to haste through three run outs and in the end were defending stubbornly at 72 for 8 to draw their cricket encounter against Ananda at Bambalapitiya.

Ananda having to wipe out a first innings deficit of 154 runs their second innings were 92 for 4 at one stage but a superb 116 run fifth wicket partnership between Jitendra Perera and Muthumudalige Pushpakumara and with the tailenders also chipping in Ananda got up to a score of 271, leaving St Peters a target of 118 for victory in 20 overs.

Pushpakumara with 15 fours and one six contributed a valuable 89 for Ananda, while Chryshantha Peiris, Aman Samsudeen and Suranga Pinto bowled well again for St Peters.
