The Barbados Nation West Indies: World Cup 19 by Sunday
The Barbados Nation - 25 February 1999

The West Indies selectors are having a busy time of it.

They have already picked two teams to play against the touring Australians and nominated Brian Lara as captain for the Test series.

Next item on their agenda is the naming of a preliminary squad of 19 for the World Cup in England that all the participating boards have to present to the organisers by Sunday to be followed by the selection of the first Test team on Monday.

``Like everyone else, we had to submit 30 names (to the organising committee) some time ago and now this has to be whittled down to 19 for administrative purposes,'' West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) secretary Andrew Sealy said yesterday.

Sealy said the West Indies had got ``special dispensation'' to name the final team of 15 on April 11, the date of the first of seven One-Day Internationals against Australia that precede the World Cup that runs from May 14 to June 20.
