BANGLADESH v INDIA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At Dhaka, January 10. India won by four wickets. Toss: India. International debuts: Khaled Mahmud, Sanuar Hossain, Sharif-ul-Haq.

Azharuddin, India's newly-restored captain, and Tendulkar, who had held the post for the past 17 months, combined to set up their team's victory. They put on 121 in 28 overs; Azharuddin scored 84, his 50th innings of 50 or more in 268 one-day internationals. But a few late wickets meant that India got home with only ten balls to spare. Bangladesh had recovered well from 22 for four, with Amin-ul-Islam scoring a maiden fifty and adding 109 with Khaled Mahmud. They reached a respectable 190 in an innings cut to 48 overs by fog. Srinath returned career-best figures of five for 23.

Man of the Match: J. Srinath.
