INDIA v PAKISTAN
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At Dhaka, January 11. India won by 18 runs. Toss: Pakistan. International debut: Fazl-e-Akbar.

Latif's debut as Pakistan captain ended in failure as India stepped up a gear. Tendulkar and Azharuddin shared another century stand, but this one was much quicker: 112 in 14 overs, with Tendulkar hitting 67 in 44 balls. Like Azharuddin the previous day, he reached his 50th fifty, but in just 175 matches. Azharuddin carried on to his fifth century in one-day internationals, falling in the last over of their fog-shortened innings. Pakistan's hopes of scoring 6.64 an over rested chiefly on Inzamam-ul-Haq, who scored 77 from 69 balls. But he was caught and bowled by Tendulkar, who claimed his 50th wicket at this level and equalled the Indian record of four catches in a match.

Man of the Match: M. Azharuddin.
