INDIA v AUSTRALIA 1997-98 Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999
At Delhi, April 14. Australia won by four wickets. Toss: India. Producing hostile bowling and responsible batting when it really mattered, Australia exacted revenge for their defeats in the qualifying matches. With the top six all getting in, the Indian innings promised much, but delivered only 227. Early on, Fleming and Kasprowicz found bounce – Tendulkar edged a ball that was heading for his throat – though others, such as Azharuddin and Sidhu, fell to rash shots. Ponting and Bevan steered the Australian reply towards victory and, with ten overs to go, they were 169 for four. Whereas India– 168 for four at the same stage – lost their last six wickets for another 59, the Australians coasted home. Man of the Match: S. R. Waugh. Man of the Tournament: A. Jadeja. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
