SOUTH AFRICA v PAKISTAN 1997-98
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At East London, April 11. South Africa won by three wickets. Toss: Pakistan.

This was South Africa's tenth successive one-day win over Pakistan, a sequence stretching back to January 1995. Rindel and Pollock made sixties after Wasim Akram struck early – by bowling Kallis, he became the first bowler to take 350 wickets in one-day internationals, in his 244th game. But it was Cronje who ensured victory with three overs to spare, scoring 52 from 53 balls with five sixes and a four. Cronje had also taken two cheap wickets to set back Pakistan. They were helped to a respectable 250 by some purposeful batting by Inzamam-ul-Haq and Yousuf Youhana, followed by a belligerent 57 from Wasim.

Man of the Match:  W. J. Cronje. Attendance:12,122.
