SRI LANKA v INDIA 1997-98
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, July 1. Sri Lanka won by eight runs. Toss: India.

Returning to Colombo, Sri Lanka avenged their earlier defeat by the in-form Indians. The game was delayed for three hours by a wet patch on the pitch and eventually reduced to 36 overs each. After his side lost three early wickets, De Silva played a fluent 62, lifting them to 171 for eight; impressive young pace bowler Agarkar claimed three for 38. Anxious to run up a winning total in 25 overs, in case of further rain, India batted wildly and slumped to 75 for six. Robin Singh and Agarkar rallied the side out, once Jayasuriya dismissed them both, the Indian challenge dissolved against tight bowling and enthusiastic fielding. Next day, Kumar Dharmasena took advantage of a rare day off to get married; all three teams were invited to the wedding.

Man of the Match: P. A. De Silva.
