SRI LANKA v INDIA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, August 24. Sri Lanka won by nine runs. Toss: India.

Sri Lanka maintained their one-day dominance with their third win. Aravinda de Silva's ninth one-day century, off 117 balls, with seven fours, helped them to overcome the loss of Jayasuriya and Atapattu for three apiece. Backed up by a maiden fifty from Lanka de Silva, they totalled 264. Still, India were on course to win at 221 for four with Azharuddin and Jadeja together. Both were run out, Azharuddin for 65 off 68 balls. That left 38 to win in five overs. Sri Lanka tightened the screws with some brilliant fielding, and kept India ten short of their target.

Man of the Match: P. A. De Silva. Man of the Series: S. T. Jayasuriya.
