INDIA v SRI LANKA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1999

At Margao, December 28. Sri Lanka won by five wickets. Toss: India.

Sri Lanka levelled the series when Aravinda de Silva led them to victory with ten balls to spare. Arriving in the 13th over, he scored 82 in 90 balls, and shared three successive fifty partnerships. The innings was halted at 205 for four when spectators threw bottles on the field, but they quietened down after an announcement citing Goa's sporting reputation, and Sri Lanka resumed their pursuit of victory ten minutes after the interruption. Earlier, India's openers, Ganguly and Jadeja, had scored 131 in the first 32 overs. But once they fell, in the space of five balls, Sri Lanka did an excellent job of containment.

Man of the Match: P. A. De Silva. Man of the Series: R. S. Mahanama.
