SRI LANKA v BANGLADESH

Jayasuriya slammed an 83-ball century as Sri Lanka completed the preliminaries with an unbeaten record. He hit three sixes and 14 fours and shared an opening stand of 171 (a Sri Lankan record) with Atapattu. Ranatunga continued his fine form with a fifty which carried him to 6,000 runs to one-day internationals. Bangladesh began promisingly with an opening stand of 76 in 17 overs. But they then lost wickets regularly.

Man of the Match: S. T. Jayasuriya.
