New Zealand: Spitting appeal decision today

Cricketer Llorne Howell should finally find out today whether he faces a bigger penalty after allegations he spat at an opponent.

A hearing was held in Christchurch yesterday after New Zealand Cricket appealed the $150 fine already imposed on the Canterbury batsman. It believes the fine was too lenient.

New Zealand Cricket general manager Tim Murdoch said the national code of conduct commissioner, Nick Davidson -- who held the hearing -- was expected to announce his decision this morning.

Howell was accused of spitting at Central Districts bowler David Blake during Canterbury's Shell Cup final match in Napier last Friday.
