International Umpire Prof Sharma dies in a road accident

Chandigarh, January 7: Prof.R.C.Sharma, an International cricket umpire died in a road accident early this morning at Jaitpur near Mahulpur in Punjab, when a bus hit his jeep. The jeep was on its way to Chandigarh when this mishap occurred.

Born on September 5, 1945, Prof. Sharma was working as principal of the Government Polytechnic College of Hoshiarpur, stood in one test match (vs Sri Lanka at Lucknow in 1993-94) and 11 one day internationals.

Professor Ramesh Chand Sharma played only school level cricket before his stint as an umpire. He was an Executive member of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) and Chairman of the PCA's Umpires Committee.
