Wesley on losing five wickets for 24 runs, made a remarkable recovery to reach 224 for 8 declared, against which the Peterites were 60 for 1 in their inter-school cricket encounter that began yesterday at Campbell Park.
St. Peter's having sent Wesley to bat, did well to wrest the initiative by taking 5 wickets for 24. But lost it, through a gallant 'back to the wall' determined sixth wicket partnership, between Manoj de Silva and Pubudu Chandrasekere, which realised 100 runs, enabling Wesley to make amends and eventually put up a respectable score of 224 for 8 declared. The feature of Wesley's innings, was the commited batting of Manoj de Silva, which earned for him a well deserved unbeaten century-whilst medium pacemen Samsudeen and Perera had two wickets apiece for St. Peter's. The Peterites in their turn batted briskly through their openers Angelo Fonseka and skipper Jerome Fernando to be 60 for 1 at the close.
At the conclusion of today's play there will be an award for the man of the match. Last week's award winner was Hemantha Fernando of Prince of Wales.
