Sri Lanka Schools: Six half centuries in drawn game

Six half centuries, three by Anandians - Thilina Kandambi (85), skipper Jitherndra Perera (50), Eshan Abeysinghe (53 n.o.) and three by Royalists Ruchira Jayasuriya (89) were the feature in their drawn school cricket encounter played at Reid Avenue yesterday.

On the first day, Royal skipper Thushan Amarasuriya got 55 and Malinda Thotuwilage 57.

Starting the day, Ananda at 121 for 2 in reply to Royal 234, declared just before lunch at 257 for 6 wickets. Ananda's total had contribution of three attractive half centuries from Thilina kandambi 85 which contained 14 hits to the ropes, skipper Jithendra Perera a fine 50 with 7 fours then quick unbeaten 53 by Eshan Abeysinghe with 2 sixes and 7 fours. Thilina and Jithendra were associated in 124 runs stand for the 3rd wicket and another fruitful 80 runs stand for the 6th wicket with Muthumudaliage Pushpakumara (47) 2 sixes and 3 fours enabled them to help swell the total.

Off spinner Jehan Mubarak was the most successful bowler for Royal claiming 2 for 48.

Royal batted the whole afternoon to make 215 for 9 at stumps. Opener Ravi Peiris scored a defiant 36 with a 4 fours but the other top order basemen except for lanky Ruchira Jayasuriya did not make big scores.

Ruchira Jayasuriya batted sensibly and was going steadily for a well deserted century. However at 89 he lofted catch to long on off Thilina Kandambi in the 19th mandatory over. Ruchira played a sheet anchor-role and faced 141 balls and struck 8 fours and one six.

Spinners Kasun Fernando 2 for 41 and Thilina Kandambi 2 for 34 bowled best for visitors.
