Sri Lanka names 30-member squad for World Cup

COLOMBO, Jan 8 (AFP) - Sri Lanka cricket authorities on Friday
announced a 30-member squad led by skipper Arjuna Ranatunga to prepare
for this year's cricket world cup in England.
The squad includes all the players from the 1996 team that won the cup
apart from Asanka Gurusinghe, who is now playing in Australia.
The Board of Control for Cricket said the list would be trimmed by
February after monitoring the performance of the players.
The Squad:
Arjuna Ranatunga, Aravinda de Silva, Sanath Jayasuriya, Marvan
Atapattu, Roshan Mahanama, Hashan Tillakaratne, Romesh Kaluwitharana,
Chaminda Vaas, Muttiah Muralitharan, Upul Chandana, Pramodya
Wickremasinghe, Suresh Perera, Nuwan Soysa, Avishka Gunawardena, Tilan
Samaraweera, Ruchira Perera, Mahela Jayawardena, Russel Arnold, Ruwan
Kalpage, Mario Villavarayan, Ravindra Pushpakumara, Eric Upashantha,
Chamara Soysa, Indika de Seram, Bathiya Perera, Jeewantha Kulatunga,
Sajeewa de Silva, Upeka Fernando, Prassana Jayawardena and T. M.
Dilshan.
