The 'Daily News' is reliably made to understand that the Executive Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka has appointed B.H. Perera as the liaison officer of the Sri Lanka team when they go to defend the World Cup in England in May.

Perera is presently the media liasion officer of the BCCSL and has no previous experience in this newly-appointed capacity nor of conditions that will prevail in England during the World Cup. We understand his name was proposed from the chair.

At the same meeting, the Executive Committee appointed former Sri Lanka Test leg-spin and googly bowler Somachandra de Silva as their specialised coach for spin bowling.

The BCCSL secretary Saliya Ahangama when contacted denied these appointments had been made and said that they had not been approved by the Executive Committee. He stated these matters would be further taken up at the next Executive Committee meeting after the BCCSL president returns after attending the ICC meeting at Christchurch.

However, a media release from the BCCSL's development director Malcolm Perera states: ``The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka under the National Development Plan has made arrangements to uplift the standards of spin bowling in Sri Lanka mainly in the outstations.

``The BCCSL has appointed D.S. de Silva, former Sri Lankan Test cricketer as its specialised coach for spin bowling. De Silva is in the process of picking talent by visiting outstations. He will be entrusted with the task of training a squad of talented spinners in the country''.
