Shahid Rafi may be named secretary The Dawn - 17 July 1999 Karachi, July 16: Shahid Rafi, former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP), is expected to be appointed the secretary of the Adhoc Committee. According to knowledgeable sources, the official announcement would be made when the chairman of the Adhoc Committee Mujibur Rahman returns from Dubai. Interestingly, when the last Adhoc Committee was appointed on Jan 13, 1994, Rafi was the secretary of the BCCP which was superseded by Javed Burki's committee. Meanwhile, the outgoing councillors of the PCB reacted cautiously to the suspension of the board. Nusrat Azeem, president of the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA), said the news has shocked him. ``I don't know why the board has been suspended.'' Majid Khan, whose tenure as chief executive of the board ended on May 22, said the appointment of an Adhoc Committee was a very difficult decision. ``I don't know what were the actual reasons, but it must have been a very difficult one for the President,'' he said from Lahore. Efforts to contact Khalid Mahmood, outgoing chairman of the PCB, till late in night went in vain.
