The Barbados Nation Desmond Haynes not on list
The Barbados Nation - 23 July 1999

After declaring his candidacy, Desmond Haynes appears not to be in the race for the board of management of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) when the July 29 meeting comes off at Sherbourne Conference Centre.

Haynes name was missing from a list of nominees released by the office of the BCA yesterday.

The former West Indies opening batsman had declared his hand as part of a team including Stephen Alleyne, Philip Nicholls and David Holford running alongside Sir Conrad Hunte, another former Test opener.

Sir Conrad has put together a team of supporters as he seeks to topple Tony Marshall for the post of president.

Nominations closed at 4:30 p.m. yesterday and no further additions are allowed, according to the BCA office.

When contacted last night, Haynes expressed surprise at the news but did not comment further.

Alleyne will be tackling Ken Hewitt and incumbent Keith Simmons for the post of first vice-president, while Nicholls will oppose incumbent Peter Symmonds for the post of honorary secretary. Holford will contest a board member post, which has attracted 15 candidates.

The only position for which there will be no fight is that of treasurer, with Pat Greenidge being nominated unopposed.
