Eight in frame for Subaru U13 Final ECB Media Release - 28 July 1999 Eight junior cricket teams will be following in the footsteps of Nasser Hussain when they contest the final of the Subaru U13 National Club Championship at Oakham School in Leicestershire next week. (August 3rd-6th) The new England Captain is one of more than a dozen current First Class Cricketers to have played in the final stages of competition which this year attracted an entry of over 1,500 teams from all over the country. This year's eight finalists are: CLUB - REGION - COUNTY
Wigton CC, North, Cumbria They have progressed via County and Regional stages to the National Final of the competition which will be played in a round-robin format over four days. Wembdon C.C. from Somerset are the current holders. The competition has been in existence since 1972 and sponsored by Subaru for the past three years. The playing format is tailored to suit the needs of young cricketers with 20 overs per side, a 'retirement' score of 25 for batsmen and limitations on the number of overs per bowler. The ECB's Director of Cricket Operations, John Carr, said: ``The high level of entries for this year's competition shows that interest in cricket at youth and junior level remains vibrant and we are grateful to Subaru for their continued support.''
