The Electronic Telegraph Graveney carries on
Michael Henderson - 15 July 1999

David Graveney has been reappointed as chairman of the Test selectors until the end of the 2001 season. Graveney, who became a selector in 1995 and has chaired the panel since 1997, declared himself happy to continue in the job, confident that England were making ``real progress''.

Simon Pack, the England and Wales Cricket Board's international teams director, said Graveney had shown ``energy and diplomacy over the past two years'' and his reappointment ``should ensure a degree of stability and continuity''. The decision was made by the England advisory management committee.

Graveney is acting as team manager for the series against New Zealand, until Duncan Fletcher begins his role as England coach in October. His next task will be to help select the touring party for South Africa this winter with Fletcher, Nasser Hussain, the captain, Graham Gooch and Mike Gatting.

As well as the senior tour there is an A-team tour to Bangladesh before Christmas, and an under-19 tour to Malaysia and the Youth World Cup in the New Year. Senior selection after that will be in the hands of Graveney, Fletcher, Hussain and one other.
