The Jamaica Gleaner Jamaica Schools: Grants Pen take on Ballards in final
The Jamaica Gleaner - 14 July 1999

The Finals of the 1999 Carib Cement cricket competition for Primary and All-Age Schools bowls off today at Nelson Oval.

In the Primary School final scheduled to start at 9:30, Grants Pen of St. Thomas (East Zone Champions) play Ballards Valley of St. Elizabeth (Mid-Island Champions).

Grants Pen reached the final with a convincing nine-wicket victory over many-time finalists Rollington Town, the Corporate Area champions.

Ballards Valley made the final through a narrow seven-run win over former champions Little London from the West Zone.

The All-Age encounter at 12:30 p.m. will see former champions New Forest of Manchester (winner in 1994) and East Zone champions Mount Pleasant of Portland (winner in 1997) do battle.

New Forest, the school which has produced West Indies representative Ricardo Powell and Jamaica wicketkeeper Matthew Sinclair, defeated former champions New Hope of Westmoreland by a nail-biting eight runs, while Mount Pleasant had a three-wicket victory over Corporate Area champions Gordon Town.
