Lancashire: Hyndburn Mayoral Six-a-side Challenge
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph - 30 July 1999

The quarter-finals of the Hyndburn Mayoral six-a-side Challenge saw wins for Attock and the Griffin's Head last Friday at Accrington Cricket Club.

Current Accrington and District League leaders Attock had a comfortable 57 run victory over Peel Park.

Five man Attock scored 132-2 in their 10 overs, skipper Khyber Shah hitting 54no and Liquat Khan 30. Peel Park were never in the hunt, Ian Jackson top scored with 28 runs as last man.

The experience of Dave Parsons and Andy McNicholas saw Robin Foster's Griffin side through with a 12 run win over Haslingden Methodists. McNicholas (43) and Pervez Ali (31) put on 77 for the second wicket after the early loss of Parsons.

Ryan Holt was the most economical bowler, conceding only four runs in his two over spell. Simon Lord batted through the innings for Methodists in scoring an undefeated half-century, but only Jeff Stanton, with 21, offered any real support.

Thirteen runs were needed off the last over, but up stepped Percy Parsons to bowl the first maiden over ever recorded in the competition to date.

This week, Baxenden confirmed their entry into the latter stages of the competition where they will be joined by hosts Accrington, last year's winners Great Harwood, and the winners of the feeder competition. Confirmation is still awaited from the borough's other league clubs. Friday's fixtures are: Everest v Taverners B; Millennium v Supreme Frames.
