Ranatunga demands protection

Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga demanded airport protection upon his return following the outcry over his team's poor show in the World Cup.

Sri Lanka's selectors were expected to drop Ranatunga and his deputy, Aravinda de Silva, yesterday, but delayed the announcement in order to speak to the players.

Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama are seen as the likely replacements.

The West Indies Cricket Board will advertise for a manager and coach to replace Clive Lloyd and Malcolm Marshall, whose contracts expire in October.

Patrick Rousseau, the board president, said: ``England opened it up to everybody including non-Englishmen. I don't think we need to do that, but I am just showing how important it is to widen the net.''

Kevin Curran is to leave Northamptonshire at the end of the season and has shown interest in the Zimbabwe bowling coach job.
