Northern League: Easy win restores 12-point lead
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph - 5 July 1999

Darwen restored their 12-point lead at the top of the Northern League with a comfortable five wicket victory at Kendal as nearest challengers St Annes lost at Fleetwood.

Batting first, Kendal lost half their side for only 44 as Darwen's bowlers totally dominated, but they could not dislodge the in-form Terry Hunte who hit 76 at a run a ball including 40 in boundaries as he shared in a 90 run stand for the sixth wicket as Kendal reached a modest 135.

Darwen's reply began shakily with the early loss of both openers and at 60-4 the game could have gone either way.

The Darwen professional steadied the ship with a responsible 33 and when he was dismissed at 94 skipper Jeff Hacking (26 not out) and Neil Cordingley (25 not out) saw the Birch Hall side to their eighth victory from nine completed games and still unbeaten.
