The Barbados Nation Nortel Championship: Crab Hill's first class debut
The Barbados Nation - 17 July 1999

WATCH OUT, Crab Hill.

The St. Lucy home of the North Stars Club is hosting its first major game – the Nortel West Indies youth cricket match between Guyana and the Windward Islands starting today.

After being held to a draw by the Nortel X1 in their rain-hit first- round game, Guyana will be going all out to secure full points against the Windwards.

Already eight points behind zone B leaders Barbados, who beat the Windwards in two days, the Guyana camp know that this is a vital game for them.

The Windwards are the only team not to have won a regional under-19 title since regional youth cricket began in 1968, and over the years spin bowling has troubled them at both youth and senior levels.

Like the Barbadians, Guyana are banking on spin against the Windwards.

Left armer Hemnarine Harrinarine's 8-31 in the first round were the best figures by a Guyanese (eclipsing Carl Hooper's 8-48 against the Windwards in 1984) and fourth best overall in Nortel cricket.

The Windwards will want to rebound from their embarrassing two-day defeat but they might find the Guyanese spinners too much.

Guyana Manager Carl Moore said he felt the loss of time because of seepage on the first two days cost Guyana full points.

The Barbadian authorities have already apologised for the sloppy covering at Market Hill, St. George.
