Dawn Evidence of indiscipline found against some players
The Dawn - 24 July 1999

Karachi, July 23: The Ehtesab Bureau (Accountability Cell) has almost finalized its investigations on the conduct of the players during the World Cup. The report is expected to be submitted to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ad hoc committee and the judicial commission in the first week of next month, insiders said.

According to sources, this was disclosed by ad hoc committee chairman Mujeebur Rahman in a meeting with former Pakistan captain Imran Khan in Lahore on Friday afternoon.

During the meeting, Imran recommended Rahman to impose a cash penalty of Rs five million on every player found guilty of betting and match-fixing.

But the ad hoc committee chairman told the former captain that he would be recommending to the competent authorities to confiscate the properties and assets of the players found guilty besides freezing their accounts and imposing life bans on them.

According to sources close to the Accountability Bureau, the investigations have turned fruitful as some evidence of indiscipline has been found.

Sources said the bureau had hired the services of private investigators for a close vigilance on the players. ``During observations, some players were seen going into night clubs and casinos.''
