Sri Lanka: St. Thomas' Bandarawela win cricket sixes

St. Thomas' College, Bandarawela carried away the Badulla Mayor's Trophy at six-a-side leather ball cricket tournament when they beat Veal's Park Sports Club in the finals played at the Vincent Dias Stadium recently.

Thirty two teams participated at this tournament which was organised by the Badulla District Cricket Association. The organisers headed by the president Chandramohan and the secretary R. M. Gunasekera conducted this tournament during two week-ends.

In the first semifinals, St. Thomas' College Bandarawela (58 for 2) beat St. Thomas' College, Gurutalawa (54 for 4) by 2 wickets while Veal's Park Sports Club (33 for 0) beat Badulla Police (27 all out) by 5 wickets.

In the final, Veal's Park Sports Club batting first scored 33 runs for 4 wickets while St. Thomas' College, Bandarawela scored the required runs losing 4 wickets.

Lalinda Silva of Veal's Park SC won the Man of the Match award. C. Hettiarachchie of STC Bandarawela was awarded the Best Bowler's trophy while K. Kettekumbura of STC Gurutalawa won the Best Batsman's award.

The Mayor of Badulla Municipal Council M. D. Hemachandra was the chief guest and distributed the awards. D. Vincent Dias, member of the Uva Provincial Council, Aubrey Kuruppu and Ronnie Guneratne also graced the occasion.
