The Barbados Nation West Indies Schools: Grenada the spice of tourney
The Barbados Nation - 23 July 1999

A total team effort saw Grenada Schools take this years Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Competition at Kensington Oval, yesterday.

After being dismissed for just 138 off 39.5 overs, the Grenadians bowled well and fielded brilliantly to shoot out Foundation for a paltry 71 off 34.5 overs, to win by 67 runs before a vocal crowd.

Doing the major damage for the Grenadians was Sheldon Phillip, who took four for 18 off eight overs.

Bowling from the northern end, the tall, well-built medium-pacer sent shock waves through the Barbados champs, who had four Division 1 players in their team.

Only two batsmen reached double figures: Samuel Graham, 11, and England-based Philip Browne, 12.

Earlier Grenada reached a challenging total thanks to some steady middle-order batting as the pitch offered some early assistance to the bowlers.

Anil Joseph and dreadlocked all-rounder Aaron St. Hillaire both topscored with 20.

Slow bowler Quame Miller bagged four for 30 off eight overs to be Foundations best, while Kevin Bartlett, a national athlete, took three for 10.

Summarised scores:

Grenada Schools 138 off 39.5 overs (Anil Joseph 20, Aaron St. Hillaire 20, Dylan Joseph 16, Shawn George 16, Kyron Clement 15, Kwasi Rougier 15; Quame Miller 4-30, Kevin Bartlett 3-10)

Foundation 71 off 34.5 overs (Philip Browne 12, Samuel Graham 11; Sheldon Phillip 4-18).

Grenada Schools won by 67 runs.
