Lancashire Inter-league preview
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph - 19 June 1999

Accrington, under the guidance of new captain Mas Ahmed, are hoping to stop Crompton taking a hat-trick of Lancashire League scalps when they meet in the quarter-finals of the Inter-League Challenge Trophy tomorrow.

Central Lancashire League side Crompton have already beaten Burnley and Rishton to reach this stage of the inter-league competition.

But success-starved Accrington will also see tomorrow's trip as a chance to home in on a cup final place of their own.

To do so they will have to counter Crompton's in-form Pakistani batsman Quaiser Rashid.

The former Stockport professional is playing as an amateur with the Oldham club and followed up a century against Burnley in round one with 88 in his side's win over Rishton.

Accrington will also come up against Pakistan pace bowler Zafar Iqbal, professional with Crompton, who were runners-up in the Central Lancs League last season.

There is one all-Lancashire League tie with cup holders Haslingden entertaining out-of-sorts Lowerhouse.

Lancashire League leaders Nelson entertain Rochdale, currently second in the CCL, whose professional is Australian Robbie Baker.

And East Lancashire travel to Middleton, who are lying third with Sri Lanka 'A' batsman and left-arm spinner Ravin Peiris in their ranks.

Tomorrow's ties: Middleton v East Lancs, Nelson v Rochdale, Crompton v Accrington, Haslingden v Lowerhouse.
