Sri Lanka: District cricket to be developed The Daily News - 10 June 1999 The Executive Committee of the BCCSL has undertaken the development of cricket in the districts with the ambition of setting up quality wickets and facilities for the future. GALLE - Progress In Galle the BCCSL has allocated Rs. 10 million to upgrade the existing stadium and its facilities in two phases. Work is already in progress before the Aussie tour and will continue after the series. PHASE I Grounds - Work already in progress on the outfield drain. Indoor facility - With the interruption of rain, a strong possibility during Test matches - the priority to build an indoor stadium has been approved. The nets will have 3 strips with added seating for 240 spectators with the ability to witness matches on the main turf. Pavilion - Improvements to the pavilion and its surrounding location. PHASE II - (Immediately after Australia Tour) Rs. 3 million approved for outer perimeter drainage and a further Rs. 3 million for the main ground drainage. Inner Drains to be cut. Turf Terraces to be constructed. Development of Radella The Executive Committee of the BCCSL has approved plans to improve and upgrade the Dimbulla C & AC. It is the BCCSL's ambition to restore this famous and historic location - A venue for International Matches in the past. a. Dressing rooms b. Umpires facilities c. Pavilion d. Outfield and fencing e. Relaying turf and wickets In Colombo the BCCSL has also approved part of a comprehensive plan submitted by Tamil Union C & AC to improve facilities, refurbish and overall re-structuring of the P. Sara Stadium. Monies for the master plan will be allocated in 3 phases over 24 months. The first instalment to be released to the Tamil Union C & AC before December 31, 1999.
