The Electronic Telegraph Player suspended after spitting row
The Electronic Telegraph - 30 June 1999

A Leading Scottish cricketer has been suspended after being accused of spitting on an opponent.

Heriot's opener Chris Goddard is alleged to have committed the offence during Saturday's National League clash with Fergulsie.

Goddard was forced to sit out a Scottish Cup tie on Sunday as club officials investigated the incident.''There were words exchanged between Goddard and some of our players after he got out,'' said Fergulsie captain Stuart Kennedy. ``But it got out of hand and one of our players was spat on. We will be lodging a formal complaint.''

Derbyshire have re-elected Trevor Bowring as chairman at the first meeting of their newly elected general committee.

Bowring took the reins in the winter following Vic Brownett's resignation during the row between club captain Dominic Cork and officials, who he claimed had undermined his authority.

At the beginning of March the committee resigned en bloc following a vote of no confidence, but said they would continue until a new committee was elected.

The Eton and Harrow match at Lord's was abandoned without a ball being bowled. It was the second time in three years that the fixture had been completely lost to the weather.
