Cricket takes its first steps in South Korea
Tony Munro - 20 March 1999

South Korea's expatriate community will put on the whites for the first time in 1999 when the spring season commences in early April.

Six teams, All Stars, England, Indians, Australia, Pakistan, and the Rest of the World will compete in the league competition which comprises 20-over-a-side matches. The top four go into the semi-finals with the winner of those proceeding to the final which is held in June.

Participation of South Koreans in the competition is limited to several exposed to the game during education in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Every team gets a second chance at glory every year when the teams line up again for the "Fall" season which starts in late August and finishes in October. Both competitions are sponsored by Gillette.

Every year a representative team goes on at least one tour. Last year the team visited Japan, playing the Japanese national team and the Yokohama Sports Club.

A PIA-sponsored Sixes tournament is also conducted.
