The Daily Star, Bangladesh Asian Test Final: Mendis due in Dhaka on 9 March
Our Sports Reporter - 4 March 1999

Former Sri Lankan captain and the tournament director Duleep Mendis will arrive in the city on March 9, three days before the final of the inaugural Asian Test Championship starts, to oversee the preparations.

The final will be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium from March 12 to 16.

The Test feast will be followed by the three-nation tournament, involving Zimbabwe, Kenya and hosts Bangladesh, which will begin at the same venue from March 19.

Pakistan have already confirmed their berth in the Test final. Their opponents will be decided after the match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which starts at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium this morning.

If Sri Lanka can win outright or manage seven bonus points out of a possible eight, they will qualify for the final. India, who lost the first match against Pakistan and drew the next against Sri Lanka, earned ten bonus points against Sri Lanka's four and will have to wait in the sidelines to know their fate. Pakistan is leading the table with 17 points.

Tickets for the Test final and the tri-nation tournament will be sold through different branches of Al-Baraka Bank in the city. The branches and date of releasing the tickets will be announced today.
