Kenyan officials backing team The Electronic Telegraph - 30 March 1999 Kenyan officials are backing their team for the World Cup despite a dismal showing in the tri-nation tournament in Bangladesh, according to Asif Padamshi, the selection committee chairman. Kenya suffered a crushing 202-run defeat by Zimbabwe in the tri-nation competition in Dhaka on Saturday, their eighth consecutive loss to the African side in one-day international cricket since the 1996 World Cup. Padamshi said Kenya would retain the same team to face Zimbabwe in their opening Cricket World Cup match at Taunton on May 20. He said: ``As far as we are concerned, the team remains the same. The coach only needs to sit down with his boys after arriving in Nairobi and do a post-mortem on what happened against Zimbabwe in that disastrous final.'' The only injury worry in the squad is top batsman Steve Tikolo, who suffered a hairline fracture of his finger while fielding against Zimbabwe on Saturday. He is expected to be fit for the World Cup.
