Some Caribbean cricket officials are turning the spotlight on those who report on the game.

On Tuesday, West Indies team manager Clive Lloyd called on the regional media to provide more responsible reporting on Caribbean cricket.

``Our cricket has never been reported correctly,'' Lloyd was quoted as saying in a CANA report. ``Have you ever heard (John) McEnroe do commentary on a tennis match?

``Well, he actually teaches you as he speaks and gives you lessons on the game. We have commentators here, can you learn from them?'' Lloyd asked.

He urged the Caribbean Press to write about the positive things about West Indies cricket, not just the negative aspects.

``Don't just knock our sport down but build it up. We have to try and motivate our players, especially when the chips are down.''

Last week, Test selector Joel Garner hit out at insularity among Caribbean journalists, with the exception of Barbados.

``When I'm in Antigua, I'm barraged with questions about Leeward Islands hopefuls,'' he told the Antigua Sun newspaper.

``This weekend I am in Trinidad and reporters there will be asking about Trinidadian players. The only place where this doesn't seem to happen is in Barbados.

``They take a different slant, when inquiring about West Indies cricket.''
