Jason Glenn still can't quite believe it himself. His whirlwind innings for the St Thomas of Canterbury College under-15 team at the weekend must surely have burst into the record books.

Glenn, 15, smashed 21 fours and 20 sixes in a 40-over game against Christchurch Boys High School, finishing on 254 not out in a total team innings of 342.

``I don't really know how I got it in 40 overs,'' the Year 11 student said yesterday.

Batting at No. 4, Glenn came to the wicket with his side in real trouble - two down for only six runs.

But from his first ball, which he hit for four runs, he showed he meant business.

He had scored a century before, but nothing like the double hundred he hit on Saturday on St Thomas's home ground.

He says the bowling wasn't the best on Saturday and he offered up only two chances - he was dropped on 170 and 188.

The innings sent his team-mates into raptures.

``They were really shocked. When I got my 200, they all ran on the field. The umpire at the other end ran down the wicket and shook my hand.''

His last 50 runs were scored in just five overs.

Glenn says he plays the sport for enjoyment, although he has already donned the whites for the school's first XI. The only downer for Glenn and St Thomas on Saturday was the weather. The game ended in a draw when rain started falling during the CBHS innings.
