Dawn Cricket board announce cash award for team
Our Sports Reporter - 20 March 1999

KARACHI, March 19: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will reward its team for winning the inaugural Asian Test Championship last week. According to informed sources, the chairman of the PCB Khalid Mahmood announced a cash award of Rs 100,000 for all the 20 players who were members of the victorious team.

The announcement was made immediately after Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by an innings in Dhaka.

According to knowledgeable sources, the cricket board was also considering a proposal to announce cash incentive for regaining the World Cup. According to the proposal, each of the 14 players and the coach will get Rs one million if Pakistan win the coveted title in the tournament to be played in England between May 14 and June 20.

In this connection, the cricket board is trying to find a suitable sponsor and is also considering to put the suggestion before Pepsico, the team sponsors.

When Pakistan won the World Cup seven years ago, each member earned more than Rs five million in appreciation for their historic achievement.

The sources in the cricket board said the PCB was in no position to announce the award itself. ``The financial position of the PCB is not very healthy. However, the PCB is trying to find a solution and announce the incentive before the departure of the team next month.''
