Shaun Pollock's World Record 'Double'
Atul Kahate - 26 March 1999

Shaun Pollock has left all the all-rounders behind with his new world record. He has completed the 'double' of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in Limited Overs International (LOI) cricket in the least number of matches (68). The previous record belonged to Ian Botham (75 matches). Interestingly, Pollock reached both the milestones (1000 runs and 100 wickets) in the same match - the fourth (replayed) match of the New Zealand-South Africa series.

Pollock is the first South African to achieve the double and the 15th overall. The following table shows the list of all of them, ordered by the least number of matches required for the double. It also shows the runs made and wickets taken at the point of completing the double. It is interesting to note that the figures for Manoj Prabhakar and Wasim Akram clearly indicate them as 'bowling' all-rounders; all others reached the batting landmark first. Sir Richard Hadlee, like Pollock, has almost the same balance in batting and bowling careers.
