South Africa's leading run scorers CricInfo365 - 20 March 1999 Bruce Mitchell's fifty year-old record as South Africa's leading run scorer in Test matches is about to fall if South Africa bat a second time in the Third Test against New Zealand. Mitchell finished the last of his 42 Test matches on 9 March 1949, having scored 3471 runs. Gary Kirsten and Hansie Cronje are both within striking distance if they can muster a handful of runs in the second innings. Should South Africa win by an innings tomorrow, all will have to wait until the Proteas' next Test appearance, expected to be against Zimbabwe in October.
