Sajith guides Sri Lanka 'A' to victory

A good all-round performance by Sajith Fernando guided Sri Lanka 'A' to a convincing 63-run win over Leicestershire in their opening match of the triangular one-day series which began at the Saravanamuttu stadium yesterday.

Half centuries by Sajith Fernando (84 with two sixes and six boundaries) and Indika de Saram (64 with 10 fours) helped Sri Lanka 'A' to make 248 for 7 in their 50 overs.

In reply, Leicestershire were bowled out for 185 runs in 48.3 overs with former England 'cap' Chris Lewis making a fighting 65. Sajith Fernando had an accurate spell of 4 for 15.

Sri Lanka 'A': 248 for 7 in 50 overs.

School cricket triangular in Hanguranketha

A triangular schools limited-over cricket tournament for the S. B. Dissanayake Trophy donated by the Minister of Sports will get underway at the public grounds, Hanguranketha today at 9.30 am.

The curtain-raiser will see Poramadulla Central College meeting Diyatilloke Central College.

The other fixtures are:

March 22 - Ganga Palatha MV vs Diyatilloke Central College, March 23 Poramadulla Central College vs Ganga Pahala MV.

The finals will be played on March 29 with Sports Minister S. B. Dissanayake as chief guest.

This tournament is organised by the Hanguranketha zonal Director of Education Daya Dharmasekera and the co-ordinating secretary to the Ministry of Sports L. R. B. Dissanayake in association with the principals of the three schools, M. A. Samarasinghe (Ganga Pahala MV), Mr. R. B. Weerasuriya (Diyatilloke MMV) and Mr. Bandula Gunawardena (Poramadulla Central).

This tournament was organised at the request of Minister Dissanayake with a view to promoting and popularising cricket in his electorate Hanguranketha. He has also donated cricket materials to these schools in the past.
