Thomians edged out Royal by a wicket

S. Thomas' edged out their traditional rivals Royal by one wicket off the last ball in an exciting Elephant Lemonade Trophy schools limited over knockout tournament first round match played at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Chasing Royal's modest total of 197 for 8 in 50 overs, the Thomians reached the target with just one wicket in hand off the last ball of the match. Gihan Fernando made a top score of 59 for the winners. It was a keenly contested tussle fought to the end after Royal crushed S. Thomas' by seven wickets in a one-sided Mustangs trophy limited over tournament match played at SSC grounds last Saturday. The Thomian last pair did well to score two runs needed for victory off the last ball.

Kandambi - unbeaten ton

A superb unbeaten century by Thilina Kandambi guided Ananda to a smashing 226-run victory over Aluthgama MV in their Elephant Lemonade Trophy schools limited over knock out tournament first round match played at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

Kandambi's unbeaten 104 and a brilliant 65 by Muthumudalige Pushpakumara enabled Ananda to make a commanding 326 fo 6 in 50 overs. In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 100 in 44 overs. Kandambi and Pushpakumara also bagged two wickets each.

Porage superb 87

M. Porage made a superb knock of 87 not out as Nalanda cruised to a convincing six-wicket win over St. Anthony's College, Wattala in their round one match of the Elephant Lemonade trophy inter-school limited over tournament match played at Campbell Park yesterday.

In reply to the Anthonians' total of 180 for 9 in 49 overs, Nalanda made 181 for 4 in just 33.3 overs to book a place in the pre-quarter finals.
