BCCSL case to be fixed for trial on May 17

A settlement advised by the District Judge of Colombo Mr. A.W.A. Salam could not be reached in the Sri Lanka Board of Control for Cricket Elections case as the defendants would not agree to holding fresh elections, senior Counsel for the plaintiff Mr. Romesh de Silva PC, informed Court yesterday.

The case will be called on May 17 and a date fixed for trial, before Mr Salam

Mr. S. L. Gunasekera with whom President's Counsels H. L. de Silva, L. C. Seneviratne and Attorneys-at-Law Roland Perera, Chanaka Perera, Hemaka Alwis instructed by Paul Ratnayake Associates appeared for certain defendants said that his clients position was that no illegality had been committed by the BCCSL and that the election had been free and fair.

He filed answer on behalf of (1) the President BCCSL Tilanga Sumathipala, office bearers (3) Anuruddha Polonowita, (4) Saliya Ahangama, (7) SSP Lawrence Amarasena, (8) Carlton Bernard, (9) A. R. M. Aroos, (10) DIG B. S. R. Jurampathy, (15) Dhammika Ranatunga, (16) Prasanna Ranatunga, (17) Trevor Rajaratnam, (18) Lucien Merennage, (19) Nishantha Ranatunga, (20) Mohan de Silva, (21) Hirantha Perera and (22) Ranjan Madurasinghe respondents.

Mr. Romesh de Silva PC with Attorneys-at-Law, Palitha Kumarasinghe and Harasha Amerasekera instructed by G. G. Arulpragasam appeared for the plaintiff Clifford Ratwatte.

Mr. Hiran de Alwis appeared for the 2nd (Abu Fuard), 3rd (Nuski Mohammed) and (13th) (Priyantha Algama) respondents.
