Minister distributes silver coins among Lankan team

A special ceremony was held at the Royal Garden Hotel in London on Thursday to greet the Sri Lanka cricket team before their title defence which started yesterday. Minister of Samurdhi, Youth Affairs & Sports S.B. Dissanayake was the chief guest.

While conveying the greetings from President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Minister Dissanayake also distributed special commemorative silver coins to the manager and team.

Minister Dissanayake, on behalf of the President and the people of Sri Lanka, wished good luck to Arjuna Ranatunga and his team. He wished Sri Lanka team all success to bring glory to the island once more, as they did in 1996.

The Minister hosted the team for dinner after the special ceremony attended by Manager Duleep Mendis and the entire 15-member Sri Lanka squad.
