The Electronic Telegraph England News Roundup
The Electronic Telegraph - 31 May 1999

The wife of England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Lord MacLaurin has died suddenly while on holiday with her husband in Spain. Ann MacLaurin, 60, collapsed when having dinner in Valderrama on Friday.

Her death cast a shadow over England's World Cup clash with India at Edgbaston although the news was kept from the players until the close of play.

England chairman of selectors David Graveney said: ``I learnt the news on Saturday morning and it is an unbelievable tragedy for the MacLaurin family.

``I kept the news from the players apart from the captain until the end of play because I felt no purpose would be served by informing them before then. Ian has a very close relationship with the players and they knew Ann from when being on tour.''
