Lara appears... The Barbados Nation - 13 May 1999 Brian Lara appeared on the field yesterday for the first time during the West Indies' build-up to the World Cup. But it was merely to perform unaccustomed 12th man errands in his team's third and last practice match. The captain was again unwilling to expose his lingering right wrist injury to possible damage before the opener against Pakistan on Sunday. In his absence, young Ricardo Powell stole the spotlight with a hurricane 53 off only 23 balls. The in-form Ridley Jacobs also made 80 and the West Indies went on to comfortably beat Surrey by 88 runs.
