Birthday surprise for Lara amid send-off The Barbados Nation - 3 May 1999 The West Indies cricket team, with birthday boy Brian Lara leading the way, flew out of Barbados last night for the World Cup in England. A sizeable crowd gathered at the Grantley Adams International Airport to give the regional side a rousing send-off which included a brief ceremony, organised by the team's new sponsors, Carib Beer. The surprise highlight was the guest appearance of Square One vocalist Alison Hinds, who sang Happy Birthday to captain Lara, who turned 30 yesterday.
