Dawn Miandad praises team's win
The Dawn - 25 May 1999

Karachi, May 24: Former Pakistan cricket star were full of praise for Pakistan. Javed Miandad said he was proud of the players. But while they were ecstatic they were cautious as well.

Miandad observed that the second stage matches will be played on Test venues where there will be comparatively little swing for the bowlers.

Miandad, however, added that in one-day cricket not all batsmen contribute. ``But Pakistan is such a talented and brilliant team that even the lower half can play as good as top half. But the top order batsmen need to pull up their socks and start getting the ball on the blade.''

Miandad said bowling has always been Pakistan's strength ``but it would be asking for too much from them to get victory in every game.''

Jalaluddin, the first bowler to record a hat trick in limited overs cricket, said once 275 runs were scored, victory was always in the bag. ``The Australians were scoring runs but at a stage they had to hit out and there are not many batsmen who can slog against Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar and Saqlain Mushtaq.''
