Dawn Was Miandad contacted to withdraw resignation?
The Dawn - 6 May 1999

The executive council of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had asked a Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) official to convince Javed Miandad to withdraw his resignation as coach of the team.

According to an insider, before accepting Miandad's resignation on May 1, the executive council decided to wait for a day and let its assignee persuade Miandad to withdraw his decision.

But the unidentified KCCA official informed the house on May 2 that ``he has failed in his mission'' following which Miandad's resignation was accepted by the council.

When Javed Miandad was contacted, he expressed his ignorance about any such attempt. ``No KCCA official approached me. If he has told the council that he failed to convince me, then, I can only say that he is lying.''

The executive council, according to a source, also approved cash incentives for the team that won at India and Sharjah. It was decided that Rs 100,000 will be awarded to each player per match. The prizes were announced for Pakistan's victory in the inaugural Asian Test Championship and tri-nation series' in India and Sharjah.

On Wednesday, a reception hosted by former vice president of the KCCA, Dr Mohammad Ali Shah for Miandad, was attended by several officer-bearers of the seven KCCA zones.
